Celebrating in DeKalb

What DeKalb venues usually need

DeKalb is a college town on the western edge of Chicagoland, and Northern Illinois University sets its calendar. Commencement weekends in May and December bring families from across the state, and every restaurant, hall and backyard in town fills up. The town is also known as the birthplace of barbed wire, a nod to its farming roots, and the Egyptian Theatre remains a downtown landmark.

For graduation backyard parties, plan a tent or canopy, tables and chairs, linens, string lights and, after dark in spring or fall, patio heaters.

For downtown dekalb events, plan only what the venue does not include: often chairs, linens, chargers, lounge pieces or a dance floor.

For park pavilions, plan tables, chairs and a canopy if the permit allows, plus a generator or battery lighting where there is no power.

For country and farm lots, plan farm tables, wood chairs, string lights and a dance floor, since barn boards and gravel are rarely level.

FAQ

Party rentals in DeKalb: questions

Where can I rent party equipment in DeKalb?

Build a quote on Beyond Chiavari with everything you need, from tents and tables to linens and bounce houses. We confirm availability with Chicago-area rental partners that deliver to DeKalb, IL, then send one itemized proposal with delivery and setup included.

How much do party rentals cost in DeKalb?

It depends on the items. Tables start at $3.30, linens at $0.83 and tents at $1.10 per item through Beyond Chiavari. Delivery, usually $150 to $400 per order, setup, a damage waiver and tax are added on the quote.

Can I get tents, tables and chairs on one order in DeKalb?

Yes. Add every category to one quote and we coordinate the partners, so you get one proposal, one delivery window and one contact for your DeKalb event.

How early should I book for an NIU graduation weekend?

As early as you can. Commencement weekends fill quickly, so request a quote once the date is confirmed, ideally a couple of months ahead. Spring is not too soon for May events. We are booking the 2026-27 season now, so an early request keeps your date and options open.

Do I need a permit for a tent party in DeKalb?

Tent and event rules depend on size and location, and the City of DeKalb sets the requirements. Check with city hall or the DeKalb Park District before you book a large tent, and tell us what they approve. A quick planning call can sort out the details before you commit to anything.
