Quick answers

How much space do I need per guest for a seated dinner?

Plan about 10-12 square feet per guest for a seated dinner at round tables, plus extra for a dance floor (about 3-4 square feet per dancing guest), a head table, bars and buffets. Each layout guide works this out for its exact guest count.

Round or long tables: which seats more people?

Long banquet or farm tables seat more people in the same room because there is less dead space between tables. Rounds are easier for conversation and service. A 60-inch round seats 8-10; an 8-foot banquet table seats 8, or 10 with one guest at each end.

How many extra chairs should I rent?

Add 3-5% spare chairs for seated dinners and about 5-10% for ceremonies, so late RSVPs, vendors and the officiant always have a seat.
