Celebrating in DeKalb

Where DeKalb hosts use linens

Logistically, DeKalb is a drive from the Chicago core, so delivery runs are longer than in the near suburbs. Route 23, Lincoln Highway and Annie Glidden Road are the main arteries, and trucks need to plan around event weekends at NIU. We match you with the closest vendor and itemize delivery so you know what the distance adds. Planning a graduation party? Ask early about tent permits and neighbors' driveways.

  • Graduation backyard parties

NIU commencement weekends mean lots of tents and chairs in yards near campus and out in the county.

Linens here: Floor-length linens hide folding tables but catch wind outdoors. Use clips or a lap-length cloth for breezy lawns.

  • Downtown DeKalb events

Historic buildings near the Egyptian Theatre have tight loading, so confirm access with the venue.

Linens here: Venues often include white house linens. Renting colored or textured linens is the cheapest way to change the room.

  • Park pavilions

Hopkins Park and other DeKalb Park District sites rent pavilions for parties. Reserve early for May.

Linens here: Picnic tables need fitted or lap-length cloths; floor-length linens drag on the ground and stain on grass.

  • Country and farm lots

Just outside town, larger lots and barns host weddings and family reunions with gravel drives.

Linens here: Many barn tables look best bare with a runner. Rent napkins and runners and skip full cloths to save money.

  • Winter storms and wind off the open fields can affect timing in colder months. We build in buffer for outdoor and tent events.
  • For park pavilions, check with the DeKalb Park District about reservations and where a truck can unload.

How to plan

Getting linen rentals right

  1. 01

    Match each table

Floor-length cloths look formal; lap-length cloths are cheaper and fine for casual events.

  2. 02

    One napkin per guest

Add 5% spares, plus cocktail napkins if you are serving passed appetizers.

  3. 03

    Don't forget service tables

Gift, cake, DJ and buffet tables need linens too; they show up in photos.

  4. 04

    Accent layers

Runners, overlays and chair sashes add color without replacing every tablecloth.
