Celebrating in River North
Where River North hosts use lighting
River North was once a district of warehouses and factories, and plenty of those heavy-timber buildings now hold event lofts, galleries and showrooms. The exposed beams and brick walls are a gift for photos, but the access is old-school: freight elevators with manual gates, docks tucked down alleys between Hubbard and Kinzie, and stairwells that were never designed for a hundred chairs.
Converted warehouse lofts
Brick-and-beam spaces with freight elevators that vary widely in size and age.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
Art galleries and showrooms
Popular for openings and private dinners, where furniture needs to complement the work on the walls.
Lighting here: Check what the venue's house lighting can do first, then rent uplights or pin spots for the cake and centerpieces.
Rooftop terraces
Common on newer buildings and above restaurants, with skyline views and exposure to wind.
Lighting here: Rooftops need wind-rated fixtures and battery uplights where cords cannot run. Keep lights low to protect the view.
Private dining rooms
Upstairs rooms used for rehearsal dinners and small receptions, often reached by stairs only.
