Celebrating in McHenry County
Where McHenry County hosts use concessions
McHenry County sits in the far northwest corner of the Chicago area, bordering Wisconsin. Woodstock is the county seat, with its historic town square and opera house, and the Metra Union Pacific Northwest line runs through Crystal Lake and Woodstock out to Harvard. Crystal Lake, McHenry, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and Huntley make up the busy middle, while the rest of the county is farmland, wetlands and small towns like Marengo and Richmond.
Fox River and lakefront parks
Algonquin, McHenry and Crystal Lake have riverside and lakeside parks that suit ceremonies. Wind and soft ground are common.
Concessions here: Parks without power need a generator for concession machines, and some do not allow food stands without approval.
Conservation district sites
McHenry County Conservation District properties offer prairie and wetland settings. Check with them about permits and vehicles.
Concessions here: Venues often have exclusive caterers, so check whether outside concession machines are allowed.
Barns and farm venues
Western McHenry County has barn and farm venues. Expect gravel lanes and limited turnarounds.
Concessions here: Barns with limited outlets need a power check before adding machines that draw a lot of current.
Downtown squares and community halls
Woodstock's square and halls in Crystal Lake and Huntley host weddings, showers and school events.
Concessions here: Halls may limit open food stations or require them in the kitchen area; ask before you plan a cotton candy station.
