Celebrating in Evanston
Where Evanston hosts use games & kids
The lake is the constant. Ceremonies near Lighthouse Beach or the Grosse Point Lighthouse grounds, picnics along the lakefront parks and backyard dinners a few blocks inland all deal with the same thing: wind off the water that can turn a calm afternoon brisk in minutes. Chairs that sit low and stay put matter more here than in most suburbs.
Lakefront parks and beaches
Lakefront settings are beautiful and windy. The city typically handles permits for gatherings on park property, so check before you plan seating.
Games & kids here: Parks usually require permission for inflatables and often a generator, since there is no outlet nearby.
Historic homes and gardens
Victorian and Prairie-style houses often have garden rooms, porches and deep backyards reached by alleys rather than driveways.
Games & kids here: Measure the yard: most bounce houses need a flat space about 5 feet larger than the unit on each side, an outlet within 50 feet, and no overhead wires.
Campus-adjacent celebrations
Graduation weekend brings dinners and receptions to homes, restaurants and rented rooms near Northwestern. Plan early, since the whole town is busy.
Games & kids here: Venues may require proof of insurance from the inflatable company and limit where units go; ask before you book.
Churches and community halls
Evanston has a deep bench of historic congregations whose halls host receptions, memorials and milestone celebrations.
Games & kids here: Indoor inflatables need ceiling height: check the clearance, since most units stand 13 to 16 feet tall.
Delivery notes for Evanston
- Many blocks have permit-only or time-limited parking. Tell us where a truck can stop briefly, or whether the alley behind your home is the better route.
- On lakefront dates, plan for wind. Heavier wood chairs hold their ground better than lightweight pieces on open grass.
How to plan
Getting bounce house and party game rentals right
- 01
Space
A standard 15x15 bounce house needs about 20x20 of flat ground plus a power outlet within 50-100 feet.
- 02
Supervision
Plan one adult supervising each inflatable at all times.
- 03
Supplies
Concession machines need supplies (kernels, sugar, cones) priced per batch.
