Celebrating in Wilmette
Where Wilmette hosts use games & kids
Many families here choose to host at home. A tent in the backyard for a bar mitzvah, a lawn ceremony for a daughter's wedding, a shower on the patio for a neighbor. Lots are generous by city standards but tighter than the estates further north, so layouts take a little more thought.
Tented backyards
Mid-sized lots host many simchas and weddings. Work out the tent footprint first, then the chair count.
Games & kids here: Measure the yard: most bounce houses need a flat space about 5 feet larger than the unit on each side, an outlet within 50 feet, and no overhead wires.
Lakefront parks
Gillson Park and the beach draw summer gatherings. The Wilmette Park District sets the rules on permits and rentals.
Games & kids here: Parks usually require permission for inflatables and often a generator, since there is no outlet nearby.
Congregational halls
Synagogues and churches host receptions and kiddush lunches. Ask what chairs stay in house and when you can access the room.
Games & kids here: Indoor inflatables need ceiling height: check the clearance, since most units stand 13 to 16 feet tall.
Patios and garden rooms
Older homes often have gardens and porches suited to showers, luncheons and intimate rehearsal dinners.
