Celebrating in Gold Coast
Where Gold Coast hosts use tents
Those settings come with expectations about how vendors behave. Many buildings have service entrances, set vendor hours and staff who will want to know exactly when you're arriving. In historic homes, the concern is protecting floors, banisters and narrow hallways. We plan for both, and we'd rather ask too many questions about access than scuff a staircase.
Chair choice in the Gold Coast often leans classic: medallion backs, velvet seats and gold frames that hold their own in rooms with plaster ceilings and chandeliers. If you're planning a fundraiser or private dinner, we'll walk through styles and counts with you and itemize everything in the quote.
Greystones and historic townhouses
Intimate dinners and parties where narrow stairs and fine floors call for careful handling.
Tents here: Before anything else, mark sprinkler heads, septic fields and buried utilities. Stake tents need soft ground and clearance; frame tents can sit on patios with weights.
Doorman high-rises and penthouses
Lakefront buildings that typically require service-elevator reservations and vendor insurance.
Tents here: Rooftops almost never allow stakes and limit wind exposure. Small frame tents or market umbrellas with heavy bases are the usual answer.
Private clubs and hotel salons
Formal rooms that host galas and receptions, often with their own vendor policies.
Tents here: Venue courtyards and lots usually need a frame tent with water barrels or concrete weights, and the venue's approval of the layout first.
Lakefront parks and Oak Street area
Settings near the beach for photos and small gatherings, subject to Chicago Park District rules.
Tents here: Most park districts limit staking and require approval for tents, so a weighted frame tent or a reserved pavilion is often the simpler route.
Delivery notes for Gold Coast
- Street parking in the Gold Coast is tight and heavily restricted. If your building has a service drive or loading zone, ask to reserve it.
- Historic homes often have tight turns and delicate finishes. Let us know about stairs, banisters and flooring so we bring the right protection.
How to plan
Getting tent rentals right
- 01
Size it
Seated dinner: 10-12 sq ft per guest. Standing cocktail: 6-8 sq ft. Add room for dance floor, bar and buffet.
- 02
Check the ground
Pole tents are staked into grass; frame tents can sit on pavement with water barrels or concrete weights.
- 03
Permits and utilities
Many Chicago-area towns require a permit for tents over 400 sq ft, and staking needs a utility locate (JULIE in Illinois).
- 04
Plan for weather
Add sidewalls, heaters or fans; a Chicago spring or fall evening can drop below 50°F.
