Celebrating in Old Town

What Old Town venues usually need

Old Town is one of Chicago's most charming historic neighborhoods. The Old Town Triangle Historic District, tucked between North Avenue, Clark Street and Lincoln Park, holds rows of 19th-century cottages, brick rowhouses and hidden courtyards. Wells Street, with its taverns, comedy clubs and restaurants, is the commercial spine, and North Avenue is another busy corridor. That mix of history and nightlife gives it real charm.

For triangle courtyards and walled gardens, plan a tent or canopy, tables and chairs, linens, string lights and, after dark in spring or fall, patio heaters.

For rooftop decks, plan light folding furniture, wind-rated heaters and weighted umbrellas, since stakes and heavy pieces are rarely allowed.

For wells street restaurants and event rooms, plan only what the venue does not include: often chairs, linens, chargers, lounge pieces or a dance floor.

For lincoln park edge lawns, plan tables, chairs and a canopy if the permit allows, plus a generator or battery lighting where there is no power.
