Celebrating in Uptown
Uptown has one of the most distinctive streetscapes on the North Side: the Wilson Red Line station, the old theater marquees along Broadway and Lawrence, and the grand terra-cotta facades left from the neighborhood's early entertainment heyday. That history still sets the tone for events here, with an appetite for big, lively gatherings in rooms with character. Our job is to make the furniture side of those nights simple.
The lakefront is the other half of Uptown. Montrose Beach and Montrose Harbor, with its wide lawn and skyline views, are a popular place for picnics and large family parties, and the nearby lakefront paths are popular for walking and gathering. Everything out there is managed by the Chicago Park District, so permits and rules come first. Lake wind is a real factor, so we'll steer you toward heavier chairs for anything near the water.
Skyline views and open grass for large family parties, subject to Chicago Park District permits and lake wind.
Tables here: Park pavilions often provide picnic tables, so rent only what the permit allows you to add, and keep tables off root zones and paths.
Uptown's old entertainment buildings host concerts and special events, often with their own furniture and load-in rules.
Tables here: Venues set strict load-in windows. Folding rounds and banquet tables move fastest, and the venue's floor plan tells you exactly how many fit.
Restaurant and hall banquets for weddings, Lunar New Year and milestone birthdays, usually with large round-table layouts.

Courtyards and rooftop spaces suit smaller parties, with stairs and narrow entrances to plan for.
Tables here: Lawns are rarely level. Banquet tables with adjustable legs or a few shims keep plates from sliding, and 60-inch rounds fit better than long rows between trees.
How to plan
Divide your guest count by 8 for 60" rounds or by 10 for 72" rounds, and round up.
Plan 1 for gifts and cards, 1 for cake, 1 for the DJ, and 1 per 50 guests for a buffet.
One highboy per 8-10 guests standing during cocktail hour.
Allow about 10-12 sq ft per seated guest including aisles; we sketch this on the free planning call.
