Celebrating in North Aurora
Where North Aurora hosts use tents
Away from the river, North Aurora is a mix of established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions, with Orchard Road and Randall Road forming busy shopping corridors. Backyard parties, graduation open houses and showers are common, and lots in newer areas are large enough for tents. The village also sits near Batavia and Geneva, so families often compare venues and services across the Fox River towns.
Riverfront and trail spaces
Riverfront Park and trail-adjacent lawns suit ceremonies and picnics; confirm reservations with the village.
Tents here: Most park districts limit staking and require approval for tents, so a weighted frame tent or a reserved pavilion is often the simpler route.
Subdivision backyards
Newer lots host tent parties for graduations, showers and birthdays.
Tents here: Before anything else, mark sprinkler heads, septic fields and buried utilities. Stake tents need soft ground and clearance; frame tents can sit on patios with weights.
Banquet and event rooms
Venues along Orchard Road and Randall Road host larger weddings and receptions.
Tents here: Venue courtyards and lots usually need a frame tent with water barrels or concrete weights, and the venue's approval of the layout first.
Church and community halls
Halls host anniversaries and fundraisers, often needing extra seating.
Tents here: Halls rarely need a tent, but an entry canopy keeps guests dry between the parking lot and the door in spring and fall.

How to plan
Getting tent rentals right
- 01
Size it
Seated dinner: 10-12 sq ft per guest. Standing cocktail: 6-8 sq ft. Add room for dance floor, bar and buffet.
- 02
Check the ground
Pole tents are staked into grass; frame tents can sit on pavement with water barrels or concrete weights.
- 03
Permits and utilities
Many Chicago-area towns require a permit for tents over 400 sq ft, and staking needs a utility locate (JULIE in Illinois).
- 04
Plan for weather
Add sidewalls, heaters or fans; a Chicago spring or fall evening can drop below 50°F.
