Celebrating in Auburn Gresham
Where Auburn Gresham hosts use lighting
Auburn Gresham is a South Side neighborhood of brick bungalows, two-flats and tree-lined streets, with 79th Street as its business spine. The area is known for large, active churches and block clubs that keep community traditions alive. Anniversary banquets, graduation open houses and family reunions fill its calendar, and many events are organized weeks in advance. Block clubs organize cookouts and holiday gatherings, and anniversary celebrations for congregations can run for the whole weekend.
Church halls
Anniversaries, repasts and community dinners that can need dozens of extra seats.
Lighting here: Hall lighting is often harsh. Uplights in your colors and dimmed overheads change the room more than any decor.
Bungalow backyards
Graduation parties and birthdays with tents.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
79th Street banquet rooms
Receptions and fundraisers; confirm outside rental policy.
Lighting here: Check what the venue's house lighting can do first, then rent uplights or pin spots for the cake and centerpieces.
Neighborhood parks
Family gatherings; Chicago Park District permits may apply.
Lighting here: Park events usually end at dusk; if yours does not, battery lanterns and uplights avoid the need for power.
