Celebrating in Irving Park
Where Irving Park hosts use lighting
Irving Park is a mix of brick bungalows, two-flats and the remarkable Villa District, a Chicago Landmark district known for its distinctive early 20th-century homes. Its architecture and garden settings make the Villa a favorite for backyard weddings and garden parties. Even outside the Villa, many Irving Park yards run deep enough for a decent-size gathering.
Villa District gardens
Large yards at the historic homes suit backyard weddings and garden parties, with gate and grass details to plan for.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
Bungalow backyards with alley access
Common across the neighborhood for graduations, baptisms and family cookouts.

Independence Park and neighborhood parks
Neighborhood park lawns and fieldhouses for casual gatherings under Chicago Park District rules.
Lighting here: Park events usually end at dusk; if yours does not, battery lanterns and uplights avoid the need for power.
Parish halls and banquet rooms
Local halls host communions, receptions and memorial gatherings.
Lighting here: Hall lighting is often harsh. Uplights in your colors and dimmed overheads change the room more than any decor.
