Celebrating in Hyde Park
Where Hyde Park hosts use linens
Then there's graduation season. When the University of Chicago and nearby schools hold commencement, families come in from across the country, and backyard and rented-room celebrations fill the calendar. We'll help you plan seating for every generation, from comfortable upholstered chairs for grandparents to simple rows for a backyard toast.
Church sanctuaries and fellowship halls
Settings for weddings, baptisms, memorials and anniversaries, often with in-house rules for outside furniture.
Linens here: Hall tables are usually plain plastic, so full floor-length linens make the biggest difference in this kind of room.
Greystone and courtyard building backyards
Family gatherings and graduation parties, frequently with alley access.
Linens here: Floor-length linens hide folding tables but catch wind outdoors. Use clips or a lap-length cloth for breezy lawns.
University-area event rooms
Rented rooms and halls near campus used for receptions and reunions; check each venue's vendor policies.
Linens here: Venues often include white house linens. Renting colored or textured linens is the cheapest way to change the room.
Jackson Park and the lakefront
Beautiful outdoor backdrops near the Museum of Science and Industry, subject to Chicago Park District rules.
Linens here: Picnic tables need fitted or lap-length cloths; floor-length linens drag on the ground and stain on grass.
Delivery notes for Hyde Park
- Courtyard buildings can mean longer carries from the street. Tell us where the closest access point is.
- Outdoor events in Jackson Park or along the lakefront generally need a park district permit. Sort that out before booking rentals.
How to plan
Getting linen rentals right
- 01
Match each table
Floor-length cloths look formal; lap-length cloths are cheaper and fine for casual events.
- 02
One napkin per guest
Add 5% spares, plus cocktail napkins if you are serving passed appetizers.
- 03
Don't forget service tables
Gift, cake, DJ and buffet tables need linens too; they show up in photos.
- 04
Accent layers
Runners, overlays and chair sashes add color without replacing every tablecloth.
