Celebrating in Zion
Where Zion hosts use lighting
Zion is one of the more unusual cities in Illinois. It was founded in 1901 by John Alexander Dowie as a religious community, and its street names, from Elisha to Ezekiel, still follow a biblical plan. Lake Michigan lies to the east, Illinois Beach State Park stretches along the shoreline, and Shiloh Park, with its historic house and lakefront, is a community gathering place.
Shiloh Park and lakefront
Open shoreline events are scenic but windy. Check with the Zion Park District about reservations and rules.
Lighting here: Park events usually end at dusk; if yours does not, battery lanterns and uplights avoid the need for power.
Church halls and sanctuaries
Faith-centered celebrations often use parish or church halls. Ask what seating is available.
Lighting here: Hall lighting is often harsh. Uplights in your colors and dimmed overheads change the room more than any decor.
Backyard celebrations
Quinceaneras and graduation parties use tented backyards with room for large guest lists.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
Park district shelters
Zion parks host family reunions and parties. Confirm reservation hours and tent rules.

Delivery notes for Zion
