Celebrating in Summit
Where Summit hosts use lighting
Summit, often called Summit-Argo, is a compact village on the Des Plaines River and the Sanitary and Ship Canal, long shaped by the nearby corn processing plant and industrial corridors. Archer Avenue runs through it, and the Metra Heritage Corridor stops here, but most of the village is tightly packed bungalows and two-flats where families have lived for generations. Weekend trucks and trains share the same corridors, and local families know to leave early for anything on Archer Avenue.
Parish and hall events
Large guest counts and set loading times. Confirm table and chair needs with the venue.
Lighting here: Hall lighting is often harsh. Uplights in your colors and dimmed overheads change the room more than any decor.
Backyard and garage parties
Compact lots mean smart layouts and stackable chairs.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
Quinceañeras and weddings
Formal seating and linens are common. Confirm what the hall provides before ordering extras.
Lighting here: Check what the venue's house lighting can do first, then rent uplights or pin spots for the cake and centerpieces.
Park gatherings
Public parks require reservations. Check with the village or park district.
Lighting here: Park events usually end at dusk; if yours does not, battery lanterns and uplights avoid the need for power.

How to plan
Getting event lighting rentals right

String lights
For a tent, plan the tent length x 3-4 for a zig-zag or perimeter pattern.
- 03
Drape
Pipe and drape is priced per running foot; use it to hide walls, storage or a kitchen door.
