Celebrating in Braidwood
Where Braidwood hosts use lighting
Braidwood is a small city in far southwestern Will County, once a coal mining town and now a Route 66 stop on the way between Joliet and Pontiac. The Polk-A-Dot Drive In on the old highway is a local landmark, and the downtown strip along Main Street reflects the town's mining and railroad past. Surrounding it are farm fields, lakes and woodland.
Backyard and country lot parties
Large lots suit graduation parties and reunions with tents and long tables.
Lighting here: String lights between trees or poles turn a yard into a venue after dark. Plan power runs and keep cords off walkways.
State fish and wildlife area outings
Group gatherings near Mazonia-Braidwood need approval from the managing agency, so check on permits and vehicle access.
Lighting here: Check what the venue's house lighting can do first, then rent uplights or pin spots for the cake and centerpieces.
Church and community halls
Local halls host showers, receptions and fundraisers, with seating that varies by building.
Lighting here: Hall lighting is often harsh. Uplights in your colors and dimmed overheads change the room more than any decor.
Route 66 town events
Downtown events along the old highway have limited curb space, so confirm access with organizers.
