Floor Plan for 100 Guests: Layout, Room Size and Tables
A 100-guest floor plan with ten rounds, a central dance floor, bar and DJ positions, plus the room size and aisle widths you need to plan around.

One hundred guests is the number most Chicago-area banquet halls are built around. It is also where a plan starts to need real structure: service aisles for waitstaff, a bar that can handle a line, and a dance floor sized for the crowd, not for the photos. This plan uses ten rounds in two rows with the dance floor in the channel between them.
The 100-guest plan
Why two rows and a channel
With ten tables, a single big block of tables leaves interior guests trapped. Two rows along the long walls keep every table on an aisle, and the channel doubles as the main walkway to the bar and the restrooms. The dance floor fills the middle of the channel and the rest stays open for movement.
| Zone | Size | Planning rule |
|---|---|---|
| Guest tables | 10 x 72 in rounds | About 11 linear feet per table with chairs |
| Dance floor | 14 x 16 ft | Around 2.5 to 3 sq ft per dancer, half the guests dancing |
| Bar | 10 to 12 ft | Two bartenders, 6 ft clear in front |
| DJ or band | 6 x 8 ft (DJ), 12 x 10 ft (band) | Needs power and no table within 8 ft |
| Cake, gifts, guest book | 3 small tables | Near the entry or the dance floor |
Aisle widths that keep service moving
Plated service for 100 guests needs at least 4 feet between chair backs, so servers can pass behind seated guests with a tray. Five feet is better. Between two rounds, leave 4 to 5 feet of aisle between chair edges. The mistake we see most is planning the tables at full capacity and finding no walkway. Our guide to how many tables for 50 to 200 guests has the spacing math.
- 1Step 1Measure the usable floorSubtract columns, the stage, coat check and any permanent bars.
- 2Step 2Place the dance floorCenter of the room or against a wall, but never beside the kitchen door.
- 3Step 3Add tablesTen rounds, at least 4 feet between chair backs.
- 4Step 4Place the bar and DJAt opposite ends, so speakers do not blast the bar line.
- 5Step 5Walk the exitsKeep direct paths to every exit door clear; your venue will confirm their rules.
If your room is smaller
At 1,500 square feet, cut the dance floor to 12 x 12 and use 66-inch or 72-inch rounds only. Move the bar to a corner and put the DJ on a banquet table against a wall. If the room is a long narrow rectangle, see long table layouts in a narrow room.
If you add a buffet
A buffet for 100 guests should have two serving lines or one double-sided line, about 20 feet total. Place it on the wall opposite the bar. A staggered release by table number keeps the wait under 15 minutes. See buffet line flow and serving speed.
Chicago planning notes
Many Chicago banquet halls and suburban hotels list capacity for rounds of 10 without dancing. Ask for the capacity with a dance floor. For downtown venues, ask about load-in time and whether a freight elevator limits the size of the tables you can bring up. For suburb venues, confirm who sets up tables and chairs so you do not pay for the same job twice. The chair rental delivery guide for the Chicago suburbs covers delivery logistics.

Chair choice for ten tables
At 100 chairs, the chair is your biggest visual decision. A velvet dining chair adds a color pop; a cross-back chair feels warm and works with any linen. See our wedding chair rental cost guide for what 100 chairs add up to.
