Brewery and Winery Event Venues in Chicago: What to Rent
Hosting a party at a Chicago-area brewery or winery? See what taprooms usually include, what to ask about outside vendors, and which rentals to add.

A brewery or winery event in Chicago has a built-in personality: concrete floors, stainless tanks, a long bar, friendly staff. It is a good fit for a birthday, rehearsal dinner, small wedding, team party or nonprofit mixer. It also has quirks that surprise first-time hosts. Here is what to ask and what to rent.
What you usually get
Every venue is different, so treat this as a checklist rather than a promise. A taproom typically has a bar, some tables and stools, a stereo or speakers, and restrooms. A winery may add a barrel room, a patio or a tasting room. Beverages are often the venue's own, and rules on outside alcohol vary. Illinois alcohol rules for private events are covered in our Illinois alcohol rules guide; verify details with the venue and with the state or city.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is outside food allowed? | Many taprooms have no kitchen and bring in caterers or food trucks |
| Is there a bar minimum? | It may change your budget |
| Who sets up tables and chairs? | The venue may have its own mix |
| Seated capacity vs standing | Seated is always lower |
| Sound limits | Neighbors and ordinances |
| Load-in access | Dock, alley or front door |
| Glassware | Venue pints may be all you get |
| Time limits | Before and after the event for setup |
Seated or standing
A taproom that holds 150 standing may seat 60 at tables. Space per guest is the reason. Standing receptions need about 6 to 8 square feet per person, while seated dinners need about 10 to 12. If the venue lists one capacity, ask whether it is for standing or seated.
The numbers above use common square-foot rules of thumb on a hypothetical 1,200 square foot room; your venue's fire marshal sets its own limit.

What to rent for a brewery or winery
- Tables and chairs: rent the right amount of seating instead of relying on stools. Metal and concrete spaces suit softer seating; see velvet dining chairs for warmth, or the bentwood bistro chair for taproom style. Estimates are $18 to $25 and $9 to $12.
- Linens: cloths soften steel and concrete. See tablecloth size chart.
- Glassware: breweries often supply pint glasses; a wedding toast needs flutes. See wedding glassware types.
- Dinnerware: if food is catered. See china rental guide.
- Lounge pieces: sofas and highboys. See lounge furniture for cocktail hour.
- Lighting: warm string lights soften an industrial room.

Sound, floors and acoustics
Hard surfaces echo. Linens, rugs and soft seating absorb sound. Ask about the floor too: concrete may need protection for rolling carts and chair feet. Tell your rental company about steps, freight doors and how far from the street to the room.
Tours, patios and weather
Some wineries host outdoor events on patios or lawns, which brings in the weather questions from our seasonal event guides. A patio needs heat in the evening and shade in the afternoon.
