Planning an Event in Barrington, IL: Barn, Estate and Tent Rentals
Rentals for Barrington barn and estate weddings: tent plus table layouts for 120 guests, chair choices for grass, and questions to ask country venues.

Barrington sits where Cook, Lake, McHenry and Kane counties meet, with open land, horse properties, large lots and a village feel. Many events here happen outdoors or in a barn, a clubhouse or a big backyard, and these settings share the same rental challenges: uneven ground, a long way from the road and weather you cannot control. This guide shows a tent-and-barn layout and how to size your order.
A 120-guest layout under a tent
Here is a sample layout for a seated dinner with a dance floor. Adjust the tent size to your site.
A rule of thumb is 12 to 15 square feet per guest when you include a dance floor, so a 120-guest event needs roughly 1,500 to 1,800 square feet inside the tent. See our tent size guide and dance floor size guide for the details.
Chairs for grass, gravel and barn floors
Soft ground changes the chair choice.
- Turf. Wide-footed wooden chairs, like the Windsor spindle and cross-back, are the stable choice. Use foot pads if heels sink.
- Gravel or paver paths. Keep ceremony aisles on firm ground or add an aisle runner.
- Barn floors. Old plank floors can be uneven, and chairs may wobble. Ask for a walk-through.

Questions to ask a Barrington venue
Country venues vary a lot, so get specifics.
- Does the venue include tables and chairs? Some do, some do not.
- Can a tent go up, and who handles permits? Villages and counties differ.
- What power is available? A DJ, caterer and lights all need outlets.
- Where can trucks park? Long gravel drives can limit large trucks.
- What is the rain plan? Moving 120 guests indoors takes planning.
- What are the noise and end times? Some country properties have quiet rules.
Do not assume a rule from another property applies here. Ask the venue and the local government where the property sits, and note that Barrington touches several counties, so the right office depends on the address.
Seasonal planning in the Barrington area
Spring ground is soft and can stay damp into May. Summer is warm and bright, with evening thunderstorms possible. Fall is a favorite for foliage and cool evenings, and winter events need heat. Plan lighting, too: our string light layout guide shows how to cover a tent or barn.

Delivery to country properties
Long driveways and soft lawns affect delivery. Ask us to plan with these in mind:
- A delivery window early enough to set up before the caterer.
- A staging area near the tent, not a quarter-mile away.
- A contact who can open gates.
- A plan for pickup if guests stay late.
We deliver from St. Charles, with first deliveries in April 2027. Delivery fees depend on distance and access, so send the property address with your quote request.
Lighting and power on country property
Rural and large-lot properties often have limited outlets, and they may be far from the tent. Ask the owner where the circuits are and how much they can carry, because a DJ, a caterer and string lights together can overload one outlet. If the property cannot supply enough power, a generator may be needed; place it away from guests, and ask a professional about safe cord routing across grass. Lighting is a safety item as well as a mood item. Path lights at the parking area, the restroom route and the tent entrance keep guests safe when the sun sets. In Chicago-area summers, sunset is roughly 8:30 pm near the longest day, and much earlier in fall, so plan lighting for the time of year you pick.
Staying flexible on the day
Weather can change in an afternoon. Have a decision time written down, such as noon on the day, to choose between the lawn and the tent. Keep a few extra chairs in the truck for guests who arrive unexpectedly, and ask your delivery contact to stay reachable on the day. A small contingency often makes the difference between a calm setup and a rush.
