Bridal Shower Table Setup: Layout, Place Settings and Rentals
Set up a bridal shower with the right tables, place settings, a seat of honor and a brunch buffet. Counts and a layout for 20 to 60 guests in Chicago.

A bridal shower is the one party in the wedding season where the table is the whole show. Guests sit for two or three hours, they talk across the table, and the photos are all of place settings and flowers. That makes details matter: sizes, spacing, and a layout that lets the bride-to-be open gifts without anyone craning their neck.
One long table or several rounds?
Use the long table for 12 to 20 guests who all know each other. Use rounds for 24 or more, or when the guest list mixes the bride's side, the groom's side and coworkers. Farm tables can be an alternate for long-table showers.
Set each place
A bridal shower place setting is simpler than a formal dinner, and a brunch menu keeps it even simpler. For each seat:
- A dinner or brunch plate, 9 to 10.5 inches across
- A fork on the left, a knife on the right, and a spoon if you have soup, fruit or yogurt
- A cloth napkin, 20 x 20 inches, folded on the plate or under the fork. See napkin folds.
- A water glass and a second glass for a mimosa or lemonade
- A small place card or favor

Pick chairs that photograph well
The chairs are in every picture because guests sit at the table for hours. Ghost chairs, about $10 to $14 each, disappear behind a flower-heavy table. Rattan garden chairs suit a greenhouse or garden mood. Cross-back chairs at $8 to $11 go with a rustic brunch. Give the bride-to-be something different, like a velvet dining chair, so the eye finds her.

Chicago-area notes
Showers book popular restaurants, tearooms and private dining rooms months in advance, especially May and June. If your venue provides tables but not chairs, or the other way around, that's an easy order to fill. At home, a tented backyard works from late spring through early fall. Rental dishes cut your cleanup, and a shower with 30 guests can easily use 90 plates through the party. Read how many glasses per guest before you finalize the glassware.
Mistakes that show up in the photos
- Centerpieces that block faces. Guests spend two hours looking across the table. Keep arrangements low or lift them on slim stems above eye level.
- Too many items per place. A bridal shower table with a plate, two glasses, a favor, a menu and a place card can feel crowded on a 60-inch round. Skip one item and let the napkin hold the place card.
- Linens that stop short. A cloth that ends above the floor shows the table legs in every picture. Use the size from the chart and check it twice.
- One table for gifts, cards and cake. Give each its own spot, or the bride-to-be will be searching for a pen while a cake slides.
- No plan for the leftover flowers. Ask a friend to carry arrangements to the car so the bride-to-be does not have to.
A quick walkthrough of the room with a tape measure before the day catches most of these. Mark where the buffet and the gift table go, and test that two people can pass between them.
