Winter Wedding Seating: Velvet, Jewel Tones and Warmth
Cold-weather weddings call for richer textures. Here is how to make seating feel warm and luxurious.

In winter, guests arrive in coats and linger indoors. The room has to feel warm and generous, and seating is a big part of that.
Why velvet works
Velvet reads as warm to the eye and the hand. Emerald, navy, burgundy and deep blush all suit candlelit winter rooms, and an upholstered seat is comfortable through a long dinner.
Pairing ideas
- Velvet Dining Chair with brass candlesticks. Rich, warm and photogenic.
- Louis Medallion Chair at the head table. A formal accent among simpler guest chairs.
- Gold Infinity Chair in a ballroom. Metallic warmth that picks up candlelight.
Practical points
- Plan for coats. A chair-back drape can look stylish, but ask your planner about a coat check, since piles of coats on velvet chairs can mark the fabric.
- Upholstered chairs are indoor-only pieces. If any part of your event is outside, plan a different chair for it.
